I want that one...
Not so long ago, a friend asked me why I wrote. My mind whirled as I considered her question and eventually gave her an answer...because I enjoy it. Now, this is only partially true...I do enjoy writing. I enjoy creating new people and places, new terrors and crafting them into a story which I hope entertains the reader as much as I enjoyed writing it. Now, as I embark on my publishing path I can dream of new worlds and people, new horizons and new horror to fill them with and while I write I know that the reality of my writing will probably never lead me to millions, but I would like to believe it can lead to a new career and then who knows. But, money has never been a motivation to write. So, it's back to my original question. Why write? The answer came to me recently. I watched the incredible Bohemian Rhapsody starring Ben Malek as Freddie Mercury as the answer to my own conundrum was staring me in the face. This is what I want. Not the money or the fame. Not the screaming hoards of adorning fans and certainly not the lifestyle. What struck me was when Queen wrote their music and played their songs the looks on the faces of the audience. Each person was smiling and hanging on to their every word. The sense of joy each lyric brought to the listener. That's what I want. To bring joy. For each person who spends their hard earned money on my books and smiles as they are taken on a journey. An experience they'll remember and come back for again and again. That's what I want. That's what I crave. That's what I need...
